WHITEHALL TERMINAL

STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK, NY

After a devastating fire in 1991, the Whitehall Terminal of the legendary Staten Island Ferry in New York City re-opened in 2005. Built on a pier cantilevered over the harbor, the terminal’s construction of glass and steel captures the natural light and gives visitors the sense of being suspended over the water. The terrazo is warmed by “radiant floor” technology which transfers warmth from water-filled tanks beneath the floors.
